Reason idylic aims to bring the best of twentieth century design to people who actually want it. Some people do not, & that's fine with us. Its all down to personal taste. This democracy & lack of prejudice helps retail of goods from any period in the 20th century, according to fashions in customer tastes, & not specifically Deco, Retro etc. The same rules apply for areas of collecting - you don't have to be a collector of Kitchenalia to want a 50's ice crusher in your kitchen. idylic tries to stock practical classics i.e. things that have a function today. This way an individual can create their individual machine for living in. Your alarm clock can bring a smile in the morning, flowers from a petrol station look stunning in that vase, & of course, tea always tastes better out of a china cup! Working hard doesn't put extra hours in your pay packet, so its difficult to find those desirable objects which reflected how many hours you worked last week. So one visits some convenience store like House of Fraser, compromising what they want for what they can get. The perfect lamp is out there but it takes time for research & knowledge, which you haven't got. If you had the time you wouldn't have the money & vice versa. Idylic the retailer. Online to help with the time-constraints & save on overheads reflected in prices to you, selling good design. Offering assets which increase in value, & not just because the owner loves them. Supplying products to customer wants, even though its nigh on impossible to gain credit from banks! And if it means that one less fibre optic lamp is commissioned, then we've helped the environment out too. Idylic Business The stock featured on the idylic website are pieces selected because of their suitability. The 'suitability' of an object is a touch intangible. I think its a combination of mass appeal with added exclusivity. Aesthetic plays a big part too. Practicality is also a consideration, with items shown suiting a customer need. Idylic does business in other arenas; this is as close as it gets to traditional antqiues business. Items are sold not only through idylic.net. Collectable audio equipment & audiophile equipment is sold through ebay. Early Modern design from Germanic countries including works from Wiener Werkstatte & Bauhaus are sold through modern design auctions at Sothebys & Bonhams. Further, Continental Decortaive Arts are also sold through established auction houses. Items sold are sourced globally via online bidding in specialist sales at established auction houses. Networking has provided a lot of direct supplies - the Swedish glass comes directly from Sweden. Education plays a big part in the buying process as history of an item in antiques defines its appeal. If you have a small interest yourself & think supplying idylic may be a foot up, please send me an email. I'm always looking for new stock & allies |
